Not only did Chloe Barr win her second Youth Championship in Largs, but her colleague Jake Bowhay from Stokes Bay Sailing Club also won his class, the Laser Radial Boys.
Jake told us that: “winning the event felt amazing. Going in to the final day the points were super close and anyone in the top five had a decent shot at winning. Coming into the event my results had been fairly inconsistent so it was a great confidence boost to win.”
Jake’s first taste of sailing was on a Scout Camp. “I had a fantastic time but wanted to know what I was actually doing so I went on to do some sailing courses.” That was such an a great experience that he joined Hill Head Sailing Club in 2013 saving up (and with a little family help) buying a boat of his own, a Topper. Since then, he has been sailing a Laser at Stokes Bay Sailing Club.
Jake is now due to competing at the World Sailing Youth Championship in Corpus Christi, Texas which he hopes will be a little warmer than Largs!
